Internet and social media use

Nearly everyone in Qatar is online, and almost everyone online uses social media. DataReportal reports 3.10 million internet users (99.0% penetration) and 2.95 million social media user identities (94.3% of the total population) in October 2025, and says 95.2% of internet users used at least one social platform. It counts 4.75 million mobile connections, 152% of the population, and notes that some connections carry only voice and SMS.

Kepios, the analysts behind DataReportal, estimate that social media user identities in Qatar grew by 410 thousand (+16.1%) between late 2024 and the end of 2025. DataReportal advises readers to use its published change figures, because Meta revised how its tools report reach and older reports are not directly comparable.

Platform reach: Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat

By advertising reach, Facebook (2.40 million) and YouTube (2.31 million) are the largest platforms DataReportal reports for Qatar with usable figures, followed by LinkedIn (1.80 million members), Instagram (1.70 million) and Snapchat (1.24 million). Ad reach is the audience a platform's own ad tools say advertisers can reach. Meta states that its estimate is not a proxy for active users or engagement.

  • Instagram: 1.70 million, equal to 54.3% of the total population and 63.7% of adults aged 18 and over. Potential ad reach rose by 200 thousand (+13.3%) between October 2024 and October 2025. Of Instagram's adult ad audience, 34.0% is female and 66.0% male.
  • Snapchat: 1.24 million, equal to 39.5% of the total population and 42.0% of adults. Of its adult ad audience, 41.2% is female and 58.0% male.
  • Facebook: 2.40 million, equal to 76.6% of the total population. YouTube: 2.31 million, equal to 73.8%.
  • LinkedIn: 1.80 million registered members, equal to 57.5% of the total population. LinkedIn counts members rather than monthly active users, so DataReportal says its figures are not directly comparable with other platforms.
  • TikTok: DataReportal reports its ad reach above 100% of adults and republishes the source data as is, so no TikTok share is quoted here.

Instagram in Qatar: age and gender (NapoleonCat)

NapoleonCat estimates 2,291,200 Instagram users in Qatar in September 2026, equal to 73.1% of the population. People aged 25 to 34 are the largest group, at 43% of users (985,100 people).

35-4425.8%
45-549.6%

Adding the rows, 86% of users are aged 18 to 44 (our sum). By gender, NapoleonCat shows 65.8% men and 34.2% women, close to DataReportal's Meta-based split for Instagram's adult ad audience of 66.0% men and 34.0% women.

DataReportal's 1.70 million (October 2025) and NapoleonCat's 2.29 million (September 2026) differ by about 0.6 million. They cover different months and both are estimates from platform advertising data, so we cannot reconcile them from the public pages. A fair summary is that Instagram reaches roughly 1.7 to 2.3 million people in Qatar.

Small businesses in Qatar

Qatar has about 71,000 small and medium enterprises, around 97% of private-sector firms, according to a Gulf Times article published on 28 April 2026. The article does not name a primary source for the figure, so treat it as an estimate. For firms of this size the cost of marketing matters; see what social media management costs in Qatar.

What the numbers suggest for a small business

The points below are our reasoning from the data above, not established facts. Test each one against your own analytics.

  • Instagram is a sensible first place to test visual offers aimed at 25 to 44 year-olds: NapoleonCat puts 68.8% of its users in that range (43% plus 25.8%, our sum). Short vertical video is a natural format to test for food, beauty, cars and retail.
  • Do not ignore Facebook. Its ad reach (2.40 million) is larger than Instagram's in DataReportal's data, and these sources give no age split for it, so check your own page insights for family, property and local-service offers.
  • Snapchat reaches 1.24 million and has a less male-skewed adult audience than Instagram in DataReportal's figures (41.2% female against 34.0%). If your buyers are mostly women, test it with a small budget.
  • LinkedIn suits business-to-business offers, but its 1.80 million counts registered members, not active users.
  • Expect male-skewed audiences: DataReportal reports that 68.1% of Qatar's adult social media identities are male. If you sell mainly to women, check that your account's audience matches before assuming a platform reaches them.
  • Post in Arabic and English by default and let your insights decide, because there is no reliable public language split. See Gulf Arabic ad copy for wording.

What is not reliably known

  • TikTok reach: DataReportal reports it above 100% of adults and flags the figure, so there is no usable TikTok share.
  • Unique people: identities and ad reach count accounts or reachable profiles, not verified unique individuals.
  • Arabic versus English usage: we found no reliable public source, so be careful with any exact percentage you see quoted.
  • Age and gender on Facebook, YouTube and Snapchat beyond the gender shares above.
  • How the two Instagram figures reconcile.
  • Purchase behaviour: none of these sources measure what people buy after seeing an ad.
  • The population base: DataReportal uses a UN estimate of 3.13 million while the National Planning Council reports 3,214,609, so percentages of population differ slightly by source.
